The 29-year-old Lingard is said to feel ‘disappointed’ at such a wrangling with United after 21 years at Old Trafford.

After flourishing on loan at West Ham in the second half of last season, he was looking forward to another kickstart move.

Newcastle took pole position ahead of Hammer – but even Saudi-owned Toon is still working on the required amount.

Lingard reportedly fears United are playing hardball after refusing to extend his contract beyond the summer.

Lingard still hoped to make England’s World Cup for Qatar in November.

And his main weapon may be the permanent switch to summer.

Unstable striker Anthony Martial beat Lingard to pull out of Old Trafford this week as Sevilla took loan for the rest of the season.

The 24-year-old Frenchman expects the deal to become permanent in the summer.

But it could be a costly headache for the Spanish high-flyer, who is now paying all of his £200,000-a-week salary.
