The top 70 are assured a spot in the southern hills, although this area is likely to take longer to fill. … The last tournament at the TPC Potomac at Avenel Farms was the Quicken Loans National in 2014, won by Francesco Molinari, who is on the field this week. … playing Tony Finau. He is coming off his ninth runner-up spot, which has brought him back into the world’s top 20 at number 18. … playing the role of Ricky Fowler. He has missed five of his eight cuts this year and is yet to finish in the top 40. Fowler has already qualified for the PGA Championship by finishing in the top-15 a year earlier at Kiawah Island.

The 2022 Wells Fargo Championship purse is set for $9 million, with the winner’s share coming in at $1,620,000 – the standard 18 percent payout according to the PGA Tour’s prize money distribution chart.
The Wells Fargo Championship field is led by Rory McIlroy, Tony Finau, Abraham Anser and the best players in the world.
The 156-player arena is a one-year event for the Quail Hollows in Charlotte, which hosts this year’s President’s Cup instead.
A cut is made after 36 holes for the top 65 players and a tie is made for the final two rounds of the tournament. All players who finish four rounds of the tournament will earn money.
