'What top player is going to go to Spurs?'

Roy Keane has given Tottenham a generally honest ruling, suggesting that ‘no top quality player’ would want to join the club.

Spurs were beaten 2–0 by Chelsea on Sunday afternoon, leading to three defeats for Antonio Conte against his former employers.

The need for reinforcements is clear, with Spurs firmly linked with a double lunge for Adama Traore and Diego Carlos.

But Keane is unconvinced of Tottenham’s ability to attract ‘top’ players to the club.

while on pedantry duty sky gameKeane said: “The difficulty is which top players are going to go to Spurs?

“Especially in January, or in the summer if they don’t get into the Champions League.

“The manager may be a highlight, but he will be in the final year of his contract, if he is still there.

“So there is a big dilemma, but again which players, even if they have some money to spend in January, there is no high quality player available in January who would like to go to Tottenham.”

Reports suggest that Spurs have made inquiries for Lille forward Jonathan David, while Dusan Vlahovic has also been linked.

Yet not a single one has been signed under Conte so far, with more than a week left of the winter window.

And when questioned this month on the prospect of reinforcements, Conte admitted that ‘the club knows very well’ what his views are on the need for quality additions.

The Italian said in secret: “This is not the right time to speak in front of the media.

“The club knows very well what I think and how much time we need to bridge the gap [to Chelsea], as it does not take a transfer window to close the gap.

“The club knows very well what I think.”

“I think over the years, this gap has become very, very big and it is not easy to find a solution. For that reason, I am only focusing on the players who work till the end.

“We will see, we have four months to deliver everything, but if we think we can resolve the situation in the transfer market, that is not the reality.

“You need several years, of course we can start over and we have to start over, because over the years the level of the team has declined instead of improving.”
