Three postponed Premier League games rearranged for January after Covid wreaked havoc on festive schedule

The three Premier League games that were canceled in December due to Kovid have been rescheduled for mid-January.

Eighteen top-flight matches have been postponed since 12 December, when Tottenham’s coronavirus outbreak paid off in Brighton.

Southampton’s home match has now been moved to Tuesday, 11 January, with Everton traveling to Brentford and Leicester.

Then the next night West Ham will hope to boost their top four bid when they host bottom-up Norwich.

But it is Everton that has indirectly caused the biggest increase in Covid rates among English clubs.

Thursday night’s home game with Newcastle was the latest casualty, meaning Rafa Benitez’s men have not played since 16 December.

The escalation in affairs has prompted Thomas Tuchel to insist his Chelsea side, currently unable to compete with leaders Manchester City for the title.

Wednesday’s 1-1 home draw with Brighton left the Blues eight points behind City.

And Stamford Bridge chief Tuchel said: “We have seven Covid cases. We have five or six players for six or more weeks.

“It would be foolish to think we can make it out of covid and injuries.”

Six of the 20 love matches between Christmas and New Year’s had to be postponed due to the coronavirus.

But so far only two games for the New Year’s weekend have been cancelled.

Leicester vs Norwich at King Power Stadium will no longer go ahead on Saturday.

And Southampton’s home match with Newcastle the next day also needs to be rearranged.
