'Stupid, immature, petulant' - Gabriel blasted by Ferdinand for red card but Arsenal hot-head vows to 'DIE' for Gunners

Arsenal defender Gabriel has been blasted as ‘stupid, immature and petulant’ by Rio Ferdinand after his red card in a 2-1 loss against Manchester City.

The 24-year-old Brazilian centre-back was sent off in the 59th minute after two quick bookable offenses at the Emirates when the score was level at 1-1.

Gabriel was shown his first caution since initially scrambled on the penalty spot after Bernardo Silva won a controversial spot-kick overtaking Granit Xaca.

However, Gunners assistant manager Albert Stuyvenburg revealed after the loss that the former Lille Ace had been booked for remarks made to first-time referee Stuart Atwell.

He added: “He made a comment to the referee. A general comment. The players confirmed it and they handed a yellow card.”

Just two minutes after Riyad Mahrez equalized, Gabriel was given his marching orders after colliding with compatriot Gabriel Jesus at the halfway point.

And his reckless foul did not impress Manchester United legend Ferdinand, who slammed the player for failing to keep a cool head.

to speak on BT Sport, Ferdinand remarked: “It’s silly, immature, petty… a penalty against your team, what do you think you’re gaining by doing this?”

He continued: “From this point on, this is where stupidity magnifies itself. That is [Jesus] He’s not going on goal, he’s not a threat, he’s in the middle of the pitch.

“Immediately after that incident you commit a silly foul like this. And then you’re in disbelief. I don’t understand it.”

Former City defender Jolene Lescott then said: “It’s going to be crazy decision making. Emotions were high, we get it.

“But the worrying thing is, we’re not surprised, we’ve seen it before and we’ve said it will keep happening. He won’t do it again.”

“There will be games in times when he’s so emotional and gets so carried away with it, you can’t do that.”

Gabriel took to social media after the match, where he insisted he was ready to die for the North London outfit.

She tweeted: “It’s hard to admit but only God knows everything! Proud to be a part of this team!!! Amazing feeling!

“We will keep working together, fighting till the end!! For this team I will run till my death!! Keep improving in 2022!!!”
