Mikel Arteta contract latest
Mikel Arteta is reportedly set to be handed a new two-year deal with the club determined by Arsenal to drive interest away from Manchester City.
The 39-year-old, who spent time at the Etihad as Pep Guardiola’s No 2, is tied at the Emirates until 2023.
This means his contract expires at the same time as Guardiola’s at City.
And, despite Arsenal finishing eighth in the Premier League in each of Arteta’s two years in charge, rumors are swirling that he could be the successor to his Spanish compatriot at the Etihad.
The Gunners are determined not to let that happen and according to the Daily Mail, Arteta will be offered a new contract before the end of the season.
He says the former Everton midfielder is happy at the club and would welcome talks to extend his stay.
And any extension would give him a pay raise on his £5 million-a-year salary in North London.
