In a blistering interview with Sky Sports, the Belgian even admitted that the summer blues were his fallback option.

Describing his Inter Milan exit, he said: “So after the second year of winning the Scudetto, I went to talk with the club chiefs and asked for a new contract.

“I did it because I told myself I’m 28, my family feels great in Milan, I still have my flat, my mother and my son can come and stay there and we Everyone will feel comfortable.

“But they didn’t want to extend my contract, was unlikely. It was hard for me to accept it, because in my mind I told myself that I would be able to do a few more years in Milan.”

“In my opinion, there are three absolute top teams in football – Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern Munich.

“Every player dreams of playing for one of these teams one day. So I thought if I ever got an opportunity like that, I would sign a new contract with Inter and then go there.

“But it didn’t happen, so I told myself that there is only one team where I can see myself – Chelsea. I was not thinking of going there, but at one point they came for me and that’s why I asked [Inter boss Simone] To go to Inzagi.

“The fact that they didn’t try to sign me a new contract bothered me a bit, it hurt me too. If Inter had offered me a new contract, I would have been 100 percent left. It went without saying Goes.”

In the same interview, 28-year-old Lukaku admitted that he is not happy at Stamford Bridge.

He said: “Physically I am fine. But I am not happy with the situation at Chelsea.

“(Thomas) Tuchel has chosen to play with another system – I won’t give up, I’ll go professional.

“I’m not happy with the situation but I’m a professional – and I can’t give up now.”

Apart from this, the teams which he named the greatest team in the world included Manchester pair United and City.

He revealed: “When I was at Inter, at the end of the first year, I turned down an offer from Manchester City, which cost more than Chelsea this summer.”

Lukaku also admitted that he remembers playing with Lautaro Martinez.

But he will not urge Argentina to join Stamford Bridge.

He said: “I miss Lautaro Martínez, I could have died for him on the pitch as I met him from day one.

“Lautaro Martinez coming here with me to Chelsea in the future? No… Lautaro, you can stay in Milan, I’ll be back there (laughs).”
