The Gunners’ frustration at being held by Burnley has been offset by potential transfer promotions on Dusan Vlahovic and Renato Sanchez.

Boss Mikel Arteta lamented Arsenal’s lack of a direct threat as a 0-0 home draw left them in sixth place after five games without a win.

But Arteta insisted on the continuous improvement of Albert Sambi Lokonga.

He said of his £18m midfield summer signing: “I think he’s growing, he’s playing better and better.

“He’s managing the physicality better, he’s maturing.”

Alexandre Lacazette, mile Smith Rowe and Martin Odegaard had virtually the only real chances for Arsenal as they missed out on a win that would have placed them in fourth place.

However, there was excitement off the field in the race to sign Fiorentina goal machine Vlahovic.

Despite the 21-year-old bidding a £50million bid from Juventus and hoping to join the Serie A giants, The Athletic say Arsenal will continue to fight for their main goal.

Spurs and especially newly-rich Newcastle have also been linked with Italy’s youngest asset.

Meanwhile, Portugal midfielder Sanches, 24, has confirmed the Gunners are keen to recruit him and believe he could leave Lille.

Finally, Nicolas Pepe has cautiously suggested that ousted captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang could stay at the Emirates next season.
