Jack Wilshere predicts Arsenal will win Premier League in next two years if Arteta is backed in transfer market

Jacques Wilshere has backed Mikel Arteta over the next few years to lead Arsenal to their first Premier League title since 2004.

However the 29-year-old has insisted the Gunners can only compete at the top of the table if the Spaniard is given the cash to make a splash in the transfer market.

Arsenal are currently fourth in the top-flight after scoring four consecutive wins, while they are also in the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup.

North Londoners were Europe’s biggest summer spenders, spending £150 million on Ben White, Martin Odegaard, Albert Sambi Lokonga, Nuno Tavares, Aaron Ramsdale and Takehiro Tomiyasu.

And free agent Wilshire, who has been training in the London colony to maintain his fitness, believes the club needs more recruits to turn them into title challengers.

Speaking on talkSPORT, the former West Ham midfielder was asked if he could see Arteta guiding Arsenal to Premier League glory.

Wilshere, who has been linked with a move to Brazilian outfit Fortaleza, said: “I think that with the right support and bringing in the right players.

“He definitely has a clear structure and philosophy of the way he looks at football and how he wants to play it.

“Listen, they’re not going to win the league this year.

“But in the next two or three years, if they can get into the top four, get some big contracts, give them time to settle down and see how the manager wants them to play.

“I’m going to put it out there — I guess they can, yeah.”

Unstoppable legend Sol Campbell echoed Wilshere’s thoughts, as he lauded Arteta for his rise to Arsenal after a disastrous start to the season.

He told talkSPORTBreakfast: “I saw Jack talking … in the next two or three years if they bring in the right players, there is a possibility, yes, absolutely.

“They are so close. At the moment Man City are just steaming it up, they are unbelievable the way they are taking teams away, both in tight games and with big scores.

“It shows that they have that great winning mentality that they can hold their nerves in tight games and blow up teams too. But Arsenal, I think yes, if they get the right players, then Why not?

“They’re going really well, Arteta firing them up, they’ve also had big results – 5-0 against Norwich and 4-1 away at Leeds – you have to beat teams if you want to show purpose. As if on the bottom, sweep them aside and move on.

“They’re going really, really well. Some results haven’t been in line with them, and they started the season in a bad way, but they’ve recovered.

“It’s a great test for them, but I think they can go all the way.

“They have great players who are in great form. [Gabriel] Martinelli, Odegaard, [Emile] Smith Rowe, all these guys are doing well, Ramsdale has brought so much life to the team.

“so why not [win the league] – go for it!”
