And Ole Gunnar Solskjaer demanded more after the final whistle.
He said: “There are a lot of thoughts running through my mind.
“At one point it felt like we were making openings and didn’t take them.
“Now, it’s one of disappointment. We put our hands up, it’s not good enough.
“The players are giving everything, they’ve done absolutely great this season so far but they know it wasn’t good enough tonight.
“The boys they seemed mentally exhausted at the end, we didn’t get that creativity.
“We can’t feel sorry for ourselves. You feel privileged when you’re in Man Utd because you’re playing for the best club in the world.
“Sometimes you go through periods like this and it’s a test I’m sure they’re going to come through.”

Crouch said: “Look at the options on the bench. It’s miles from it.
“I don’t know what a Manchester United player is now.
“Most of the players that Manchester United have bought over the past five years have gone backwards.”
