How Chelsea could line up against Liverpool with Lukaku set to start for injury-hit side despite bombshell interview

Romelu Lukaku could be set to make his debut for Chelsea against Liverpool despite his blistering interview.

The Belgian ace surprised Thomas Tuchel, describing him as unhappy with the German team’s selection and strategy.

Lukaku also admitted that he would not have rejoined Chelsea in a club-record £97.5 million deal if Inter Milan had offered him a new contract.

But after scoring in his last two games, Lukaku is set to lead the line against Jurgen Klopp’s Covid-hit Reds.

Edouard Mendy will start in goal, with Marcos Alonso on the left wing-back and Cesar Azpilicueta likely on the right after an injury to Reece James.

Andreas Christensen is also out, meaning Thiago Silva is set to return along with Trevoh Chaloba and Antonio Rudiger.

In midfield, N’Golo Kante is set to start and may be joined by Jorginho.

Meanwhile, Mason Mount and Callum Hudson-Odoi are likely to top their spot with Lukaku.

Alternatively, Chelsea could have opted to keep Christian Pulisic on the right wing-back after his fine performance in the 1-1 draw with Brighton.

Matteo Kovacic could also retain his position in midfield, with Timo Werner another option in the attack after returning from injury.

And Kai Havertz is also available for selection after training this week, giving Tuchel another option instead of Lukaku.

But Hakim Ziyech, Ross Barkley and Ruben Loftus-Cheek are unlikely to feature.

Reports claim that Chelsea are set to sell all three fringe midfielders this month.

It could open the door for one or two new faces as the Blues prepare to take on Manchester City in the race for the title.
