At Man United, a £5 can of Carling was foamed to fill three-quarters of a plastic pint cup.

One drinker quipped: “We’re happy to pay more for anything at United, with Harry Maguire being a prime example.

“Who, like this pint, also has a huge head.”

Nottm Forest fan Paul Hopper said of his £4.40 flop: “He won’t even pick up from the bar.”

And of Sheffield United’s £4.80 beer, John said: “The club is like a pint, halfway through, but just not that good.”

Half a beer was also on sale for £4 each at the Hillsborough ground in League One Sheffield Wednesday.

Paul Smith joked: “Seeing Wednesday turns you into a drink and they can’t even get that right, blush.”
