ALVARO MORATA has been linked with a surprise move to Barcelona in January as Xavi looks to strengthen his attack.

The Blaugrana boss is eager to bolster his front line after having already landed Ferran Torres from Manchester City in a deal worth up to £55million.

And Marca says he has now turned his attention to compatriot Morata, who is currently in his second year on loan at Atletico Madrid’s Juventus.

If the 29-year-old is linked with the Catalan outfit, he would be the 38th player to have signed for both Barca and Real Madrid.

The ex-Chelsea centre-forward came through the academy at Los Blancos, before enjoying two separate spells at Real.

Former Argentine striker Javier Saviola was the last player to have represented both clubs since joining Madrid on a free transfer after his contract was terminated at Nou Camp in 2007.

But if Barca make a deal with Atletico and the old lady, Morata could be the first player to cross the divide in 15 years.

Morata, who has scored seven goals and three assists in 23 games in all competitions this period, is claimed to be considering an offer from Barcelona.

It is said that Xavi has already contacted Morata about the possibility of being included in the upcoming transfer window.

The deal, however, depends on whether Juve are willing to convert the two-time Champions League winner’s loan move into a permanent stay.

And Atletico may not be ready to sell straight LaLiga title contenders in the middle of the season.

Even if both sides allow Morata to join Barca, Xavi’s side must turn down players to bring him in due to their financial difficulties.

French winger Ousmane Dembele – in the final year of his contract – could be sold in January in a cut-price deal after turning down an opportunity to extend his stay.

Meanwhile Brazilian playwright Philippe Coutinho is another player, likely with Arsenal, Tottenham and Everton all showing interest.
