Ben Chilwell has announced that his knee surgery was successful.
The 25-year-old sustained a partial ACL tear during Chelsea’s 4-0 win over Juventus in November.
Earlier this week the club announced that he would require surgery to repair the damage.
An official statement released by Chelsea said: “Following a knee injury in the match against Juventus, the Chelsea Medical Department, in collaboration with their knee specialist, decided to attempt a conservative rehab approach.
“Unfortunately Ben was unable to make progress and therefore the collective decision has been made this week to proceed with surgical repair.”
As a result, the defender is likely to be out of action for the rest of the season.
However, Blues fans were relieved to see that the England international is already well after posting a positive message on Twitter.
Chilwell said: “Hello guys. Just wanted to let everyone know that yesterday’s operation was a success.
“I feel so positive and inspired to be back on the pitch with my boys soon and work like a beast to help this great club win more trophies.
“Thank you all for the support and nice messages.”
The left back is not the only name in Thomas Tuchel’s injury list.
Thiago Silva, Reece James and Andreas Christensen have all been out of action after suffering injuries in recent matches.
Tuchel expressed his disappointment about the club’s injury crisis following Chelsea’s 1-1 draw with Brighton on Wednesday.
He said: “We don’t have any wing backs anymore, we have everyone injured and players are coming back from Covid conditions and we are playing.”
