Gary Neville suggested Liverpool stars Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson are the best full-backs in Premier League history.
Neville, who plays as a Manchester United right-back, was very impressed with Alexander-Arnold and Robertson during the Reds’ 2-2 draw at Tottenham on Sunday.
One cannot miss the two full-backs turned footballer-turned-pundits who have ever played as a pair like the Liverpool duo he compared to the greats Roberto Carlos and Kaifu.
Carlos is remembered as one of the greatest left-backs of all time for his illustrious 11-year stint at Real Madrid, where he stood out thanks to his powerful left foot.
His former Brazil teammate Kaifu is remembered as a Serie A legend for his success at Roma and AC Milan.
Neville said on his Sky Sports podcast: “Sometimes, during a game, you have to test yourself that when you’re involved in this kind of emotional game, you’re going to have them as a co-commentator or commentator. Mentioning, you’re mentioning him in the same breath as probably the two greatest full-backs I’ve ever seen, Roberto Carlos and Kaifu.
“For so many years he was the shining example. He replaced full-back play.
“I know the Liverpool teams of the 70s attacked full-backs first, but when you think of them as an attacker first, the defender second, the free-kick, the attack, the cross, every part of the game. He made the full-back a key part of the team.

“They were exceptional, but these two… I don’t think I’ve seen two full-back games in the Premier League that are as good as these two as a pair. The way they combine on the pitch, which The way they play the game is an absolute pleasure.
“Robertson does everything well with his consistency. Defends well, he’s competitive – a little too much at the end – but he scored a goal and set a goal.
“Alexander-Arnold is an absolute phenomenon when it comes to the quality of his passing, the quality of his delivery. It’s something I’ve never seen before.
“I like this [Kevin] De Bruyne, it [David] Beckham, it [Steven] Gerard, and they are attacking the players. He is playing at right-back, that is the biggest compliment I can give to him.
“The contribution these two have made is unbelievable. It’s strange to me. I grew up saying let it be near full-back. You can’t give these two away.”
