FRANCIS NGANNOU urges UFC to support fight with Tyson Fury, saying: ‘It will happen at some point’.

The UFC and boxing champions have built up a steady rivalry in recent years, with both calling each other out.

And Ngannou is convinced that the two heavyweight stars will clash in a crossover match.

He told DAZN: “I believe that fight will happen. I think Tyson Fury wants the fight to happen too, so eventually it will happen at some point.

“I can’t say specifically when it will happen, but it’s definitely going to happen because we’re both ready to put up with that fight.”

UFC fighters competing outside of the promotion, unless given a special exemption.

Conor McGregor, 33, was awarded in 2017 for his lucrative boxing defeat to American legend Floyd Mayweather (44).

No fighter has been treated like this since then – but Ngannu wants to put a stop to that.

He added: “I think it will be more viral with support, with the UFC behind it.

“Anything you do with the UFC, I think it’s going to be huge.”

Fury, 33, recently teased a boxing match with UFC gloves on against Nganou, 35.

But the UFC champion from Cameroon is eyeing a move to boxing.

Ngannou defended his title on January 22 against 31-year-old former training partner Cyril Gain.

It is the last fight on his UFC contract and Ngannou has threatened to pull out of the promotion amid a pay dispute.

I believe this will be a fight. I think Tyson Fury wants the fight to happen too, so eventually it will at some point.

And if he has to extend his deal, he wants a clause that allows him to box at the same time.

UFC president Dana White appeared to be at ease when questioned about Nganou potentially being dropped as a free agent after his defense against Gaine.

White said on Teddy Atlas’ podcast: “Francis and I bumped into each other over dinner.

“We had a good talk and if he wins that fight he is not out of contract. I think he has another fight with us after that.

“I say it all the time, this game is fun for me. I love doing it, and contrary to the legend out there, we’ve made a lot of people very wealthy.

“If you don’t want to be here, if this isn’t where you want to be, it’s not fun for you and it’s definitely not fun for me either.

“All adults are men and women, and everyone has to make their own decisions in life and go their own way, but I think Francis and I had a good conversation.”
